enormous tubes of plasma floating above earth
A 60year old theory has been confirmed for the first time. The theory is that there is a structure of magnetic fields surrounding Earth. The person, who confirmed the theory, is an undergraduate student, who invented a way to view the Earth’s magnetosphere in three dimensions. The sun gives off a constant stream of charged particles that’s supplemented by cosmic rays from sources like supernovae. When these particles approach Earth, their path is interfered by the Earth’s magnetic field.
This deflects some funnels and some others towards the poles. This leads to displays such as aurora. This area is known as the magnetosphere, which has the ionosphere and plasmasphere as its inner layers. Throughout her honors project at the University of Sydney, Cleo Loi , figures that she could use the Murchison Widefield array radio telescope in order to probe these areas in such a sense that they have never done before. This lead to her paper, confirming the theory.
