Auctions for Lab Equipment, Part 2
Shopping for a discount vs. shopping for quality
When furnishing a lab with used lab equipment, it’s assumed that shopping for the best price is a priority – but this doesn’t mean quality needs to be sacrificed.
It’s important to understand that every used lab equipment dealer operates differently. Some shops purchase equipment at an auction only to turnaround and resell the equipment almost immediately. Others might purchase the equipment and perform some basic maintenance before putting the equipment back up for sale. Then there are companies like The Lab World Group, which ensure that any product they purchase is beyond reproach before they even consider reselling it. There are fewer than 10 organizations nationally that go to these lengths to ensure the quality of their products.
Knowing the type of reseller you are planning on purchasing equipment from will help you plan for any possible future expense and maintenance. While the upfront cost of a less-thoroughly rehabilitated may initially be lower, if and when issues are experienced down the line this could lead to even higher costs, both in terms of money and time.
The Lab World Group will be hosting its first ever auction June 5-7. Find out more information and register for the auction here.
