California bans plastic bags
California has banned plastic bags because they along with other plastic debris are being eaten by marine life in the Great Pacific ocean. This has caused death to numerous animals including sea turtles. Governer Jerry Brown has signed into law a measure that makes the nation’s first statewide ban. Democratic state senator Alex Padilla of Los Angeles introduced the bill earlier this year. Large super markets will stop using plastic bags starting at the beginning of 2015, with convenience stores and pharmacies to following in 2016. This will encourage shoppers to bring their own bag in order to prevent littering in the future. This is one of the may solutions California is actively taking to become a green state.
