Cryogenic Equipment Manufacturers
Amanda2022-04-29T16:23:07+00:00The field of cryogenic equipment is vast and varied, but within that field are steadfast manufacturers that produce high-quality instruments with safety in mind. Here is a list of Cryogenic Equipment Manufacturers, many of which we’ve carried over the years, that perform consistently over time.
Thermo Scientific
Thermo Scientific has a robust lineup of cryogenic storage equipment that ranges from portable shipping containers, storage accessories such as racks and canes, controlled rate freezers, dewars, and autofill systems. If you have a need, Thermo has you covered. Their Cyroplus series of autofill systems are simple to use, with reliable performance, and microprocessor control that helps take the guesswork out of maintenance, and reduces risk with filling. The capacities can range from 90l up to 552L and an at-a-glance level visualization provides peace of mind. For higher capacity needs they offer the CryoExtra lineup ranging from 463L to 1745L with an eye toward high efficiency, super insulation, and long-term storage.
For more general storage, but still, in keeping with high-quality components and minimized loss, the Thermo Scientific Locator Dewars and Biocane Dewars allow users to keep lower quantities, simple retrieval, and simpler placement.
As a non-cryogenic liquid option, the Cryomed Controlled Rate Freezer is an ideal option for labs working with human IVF samples. These compact systems are microprocessor controlled to precisely monitor the descent of the temperature to protect samples and avoid the risk of liquid coming in contact.
MVE and Chart
The MVE division of Chart Cryogenics provides a comprehensive lineup of cryopreservation options, from the small and portable up to high capacity and fully automated. One of the largest capacity options is also highly innovative, the MVE Fusion. This giant holds up to 31200 vials and uses a special self-sustaining system. It requires no ongoing supply making it ideal for locations that are difficult to access or to deliver LN2. The Q drive cryocooler provides constant cold storage, keeping a dry environment and reducing the risk of liquid cross-contamination. MVE also has an extensive selection of aluminum Dewars, with long-term security and low consumption, as well as one-way shippers with a 7-day hold time for an economical and flexible method of transport.
VWR Cryopro
The VWR Cryopro line covers users from canister and rack Dewars, liquid storage tanks to full access auto-fill systems, as well as vapor phase storage. The cabinet design of their autofill system allows for high capacity storage at either 165 L or 365L and is mounted on casters allowing them to be moved easily. The digital control and monitoring let users know if there’s a temperature variation, or if there are low LN2 supplies. Users can also attach remote alarms through contacts, and check statuses on the upfront control panel. VWR cryopreservation systems also employ a sealed center shaft that eliminates the hazard of LN2 spurting you can have with a hollow shaft retrieval claw.
IC Biomedical /Worthington and Taylor Wharton
IC Biomedical Dewars sometimes found under the Worthington banner or Taylor Wharton, carry a full range of sizes and shapes Dewars, or more advanced systems that can store in either liquid or vapor. Each is constructed of lightweight but strong aluminum with sealed vacuum space and lids that keep loss to a minimum while still being safe. They even have a division dedicated to animal husbandry purposes, with special protections to guard against temperature swings when removing a canister.
Each IC Biomedical Dewar features a highly durable, magneformed design with a tight neck tube to help reduce evaporation loss and advanced insulation. Lids can either be snap-on for a tight fit or include a lock for added security.
Cryosafe
Cryosafe Cryomizer storage systems offer users the option of storing in either liquid or vapor phase, storing at – 185°C at the top shelf with a scant 2” of Liquid nitrogen in the tank. For a tightly controlled, higher-capacity option, the Cryoguard class features a restricted neck opening and improved cryo vial inventorying. The holding container maximizes the available space holding up to 94500 2ml vials. Other features of this cryopreservation system include a stainless steel armor-plated transfer hose, a folding step for easy access, a keyed lid lock for added security, a dedicated control system for automatic maintenance, and a flat work area.
Final Thoughts
Each of these companies provides thoughtful design and features to enhance the end user’s experience. Most importantly, they all provide systems that are secure, reliable and with proper handling, are safe to use on an ongoing basis. From dewars that are easy to move and provide easy access for everyday use, to long-term solutions with tight control and digital automation, you can’t go wrong with these providers.
