Disney Research Team Creates WiFi Robot
Disney has created an adorable autonomous robot named BeachBot, who carves sketches into the sand. This little turtle-like robot is the creation of scientists at Disney Research Zurich and ETH Zurich. They are responsible for numeral projects like an algorithm that can turn virtually anything into a spinning top. The robot is 60 cm long and 40 cm in both width and height, and has three wheels. The pictures it creates are already pre-loaded or drawn by someone remotely and can be sent to the robot’s wifi.
Poles are placed in the sand in order to create boundary for the robot. The poles are detected by a laser scanner on its back. The robot is able to navigate around the area and identify its location. The bot’s creators figured that a series of prongs in a rake-like fashion was best for sketching into the sand. They are also of various sizes for preferred thickness. The robot also had balloon-like wheels so it doesn’t leave a trail as it glides across the sand.
