Genes linked to anxiety disorders
Researchers have discovered seven new genes that link to anxiety disorders like obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. This means that medicine could target the gene entirely, and treat the individual. Drug therapies are a way of treating these disorders. The dopaminergic and the serotonergic are two related paths of this treatment. Dopaminergic is linked to movement, motivation, and reward response. Serotonin in the brain has been linked to mood, social behavior, memory, and cognitive function. Drug therapies work on half of those affected. The research looked at new genes that could play a role in how anxiety develops and progress.
