Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based startup Alaka’i Technologies launched Skai late last month, the world’s first hydrogen-powered electric vehicle designed for air mobility, according to AmericanInno. With the tagline “Fueled by Hydrogen. Powered by Simplicity.” Skai is “a radically simple air mobility system designed to go from A to Anywhere.”
“We wanted to solve an age-old problem of traffic congestion and pollution,” Brian Morrison, co-founder and CTO of Alakai Technologies, said.
Skai utilizes six electric motors, powered by hydrogen fuel, are able to carry five guests, including the pilot, up to four hours or 400 miles and was developed in collaboration with Designworks, Skai boasts “being environmentally friendly with clean zero emissions and carbon free travel,” making it more efficient than comparable electric vehicles. Not only that, but one of Skai’s key features is its ability to takeoff and land in small areas, making it a potential option for commuters.
The company is still technically waiting FAA approval, it has been adapted for non-commute purposes, including first responder, EMS and Medivac services, and feeder route and last mile freight service.
