New Species Of Monkey Discovered in Brazil
Researchers believe that have found a new species of a titi monkey in Brazil a few years back. Papéis Avulsos de Zoologia is where this new species is described. Julio César Dalponte discovered the animal during an expedition along the Roosevelt River. The monkey’s bright orange tail and other certain patterns in the fur, it’s viewed as a distant member of the Callicebus genus.
It has been formally named Callicebus miltoni after primatologist Milton Thiago de Mello. He has spent his career educating other primatologists in Brazil. “It goes without saying that we are really excited about this new discovery,” co-author Felipe Ennes Silva from Brazil’s Conservation Leadership Programme said in a press release. “It is always thrilling to find something new in the Amazon, as it reminds us just how special this rainforest is and how lucky we are to have it on our doorstep.”
