The Spookfish
The spookfish has recently grasped tons of attention for its unusual vision. It is a member of the Rhinochimaeridae family and is a relative of the shark family. This video was taken last year in Hydeographer Canyon in the North Atlantic. It was taken by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s ROV Deep Discoverer. These fish have been found in the open seas near Greenland to New Zealand and are hardly ever seen. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature considers data on them insufficent to claddify their status.
