Stem Cell gel heals injuries
Brains can recover from traumatic injuries by a gel that scientists have developed. It has the ability to treat head injuries of any sort. It was created by Dr. Ning Zhang at Clemson University in South Carolina. It is injected in liquid form at the spot of the injury and stimulates the growth of stem cells there. Injured tissues swell up and can cause more damage to the cells, so this treament tried to limit this extra damage by loweing the temperature or relieving the pressure at the site of the injuries. But, these methods are not quite effective.
Scientists have also thought about transplanting donor brain cells into the wound in order to repair the damaged tissue. This has not recieved many resulting when treating brain injuries. The gel can be loaded with different chemicals in order to activate many biological processes at the site of the injury. The gel was also loaded with immature stem cells, as well as the chemicals they needed to devlop into adult cells. The rats with severe brain injuries were treated for eight weeks and showed signs of signifigant recovery.
