Tesla Releases More Information About Solar Roof Products
Last year, Tesla announced plans to develop a solar roof system “that integrates the solar cells and modules inside the structure of the roof rather than just panels on a roof,” electrek reported. Now, Tesla Energy will begin selling its Solar Roof this year, according to Business Insider. Using solar energy helps to reduce your dependancy on the power grid, and with a proper battery can provide energy on demand any time day or night. The appeal of a tile version is its lower profile so you can reep the benefits without disrupting your home’s silhouette.
The panels will come in four styles, all meant to look like traditional roof shingles, and additional Tesla Powerwall allows for power storage for use at night. These products will use a combination of technologies including developments by Tesla, technology by Panasonic, and from SolarCity and its subsidiaries – all brought together under one roof at Tesla’s newly acquired Buffalo factory.
According to electrek, through Tesla’s acquisition of SolarCity, “they inherited an agreement with the Research Foundation for the State University of New York for the construction of an approximately 1 million square foot manufacturing facility, which is now mostly completed,” and will now be known as ‘Gigafactory 2’.
Tesla expects to start production on these solar roof panels this summer. Learn more about Tesla’s Solar Roof products here.
