Time line of babies first few minutes.
Minute 0: Babies cry angrily in order to help wake up the lungs.
Minute 2: After all that crying, babies spend less than a minute relaxing. They hold perfectly still on their mother’s chest, which is speculated that this could have evolved in order to hide them predators.
Minute 2.5: When they wake up, they open their eyes for the first time and start to move their mouths.
Minute 8: Babies keep their eyes open for five minutes and longer. They want to eat so they make slight noises while moving their hands towards their mouths.
Minute 36: Babies start to rely on their sense of smell to navigate towards food.
Minute 62: While they nurse, babies most likely get small amounts of colostrum, which is a pre-milk substance pack with protein and immune molecules. This suckling helps the breasts to make milk and helps the mom’s uterus go back to normal size.
